Guides / Xero dates
Change the invoice date on multiple Xero invoices
Correct the invoice date on DRAFT and SUBMITTED documents, with review and undo.
Checked 25 October 2026. Duemend writes only after you type the confirmation, and only to the organisation you chose. Xero can reject a date change (for example in a locked period); its ValidationException message appears on the affected row.
Before you begin
Choose Sales invoices or Bills. Invoice date changes are restricted to DRAFT and SUBMITTED. AUTHORISED invoices cannot use this field.
- Sign in with Xero and open Invoices.
- Choose Sales invoices or Bills. Use status, Contact contains, invoice date range, due date range or Overdue only, then Load invoices. Refresh loads a fresh snapshot.
- Tick the invoices and choose Invoice date in Field. Select Fixed date, Shift by days, Days after invoice date, Organisation default payment terms or Weekend → next Monday.
- Choose Preview changes. Compare every old date and new date; unchanged rows are skipped.
- Type UPDATE n with the displayed count, then Update dates.
- Review the per-row results and Result CSV. History → View results → Undo restores successful changes within 30 days.
Import a prepared list
Open Import, choose the type and upload CSV or XLSX with InvoiceNumber, field and new date. Preview import shows unknown invoice numbers, wrong fields/statuses and bad dates per row.
Keep control of the result
Undo restores stored old dates on successful rows for 30 days. A date changed again since the update is skipped, so a later edit is preserved. Xero cannot clear a date again, so a date that was empty before the update stays in place; the preview says how many invoices this affects.
Load and Preview are free. Your first 10 successful rows per organisation are free, with no trial expiry. Maximum 1,000 rows per job; write calls contain at most 50 invoices. Reads above 10,000 invoices fail clearly without showing a partial list.
